BIRD HOUSES--Bluebirds and Martins
Posted on Feb 9th, 2011

Lance Harvey, builder and proprietor of several houses around the lake, needs some help Saturday morning to clean up several of his properties as he does not wish to be characterized as a slumlord. Your first thought is do it yourself Lance or hire someone to clean up the mess. And that would be the wrong reaction.

We are talking about BIRD HOUSES--Bluebirds and Martins--who are already in the community or will be shortly. I know the Bluebirds are present because I see them every day gorging themselves on Wal-Mart's Deck and Porch seed in my back deck bird feeder. They can go through a 5lb bag in 3 days.

FYI, the bluebird houses were erected by FONL on the Peninsula in 2001 and they have been a steady seasonal habitat every year since. They prefer to make their own nests rather than sleep in someone else's bed so a housecleaning is in order.

Regarding the Martin houses, if you look closely you will see them mounted atop tall poles at Matheny Park and on the Peninsula--and Lance built every one of them last winter in in his workshop. He then gathered up a bunch of bird lovers to help mount the houses and erect the poles. Actually each is an APARTMENT COMPLEX so Lance gets more rent for his money.

That said, he wants to clean and pretty them up come Saturday morning.
This is not one of those "Dirty Jobs" you see on TV so there will be no crew to film it. But if you're just looking for an "at-a-boy," Lance will be handing them out at Matheny Park starting at 10am. You'll be home for lunch.

If you can help, you can reply to this e-mail and I will pass on the names to Lance. Otherwise, just be there.
