HOMEOWNER’S MIDYEAR UPDATE - PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

DEKALB ROADS IN NORRIS LAKE TO BE RE-PAVED
THE WEEK OF JUNE 28

Everyone who drives on Lake Drive or Donald Road is aware of the ever-growing potholes. The roads in Norris Lake which are in DeKalb (not Gwinnett) County were never accepted by DeKalb County when the subdivision was new back in the 1950’s, so the repairs on the DeKalb portion of our roads are our responsibility. We have spent time, effort and funds over the last 10 years trying to get the county to accept these roads, but have received a continual negative response. In the meantime, the roads have been getting worse. So during the week of June 28 (next week), we have contracted to completely re-pave the privately-owned portion of Lake Drive in DeKalb County and a part of Donald Road. This has been a priority for a few years, and we have saved enough money to hire a contractor to complete this much needed improvement. If you live on the DeKalb portion of Lake Drive (both sides of the lake) or near the bottom of the hill on Donald Road, please be aware that the repaving will be done sometime the week of June 28. Please keep the street in front of your home clear during that week.

Thanks to the increase in assessments and our increased collection efforts, we have also accomplished a number of other projects this year. The clubhouse renovation is nearly complete. The structural renovations are complete, we have new furniture, and the window and wall decorations are on their way. Please see the enclosing flyer about the photography contest. We would like to use the work of Norris Lake residents as part of our clubhouse decoration. We have a new boathouse in the Main Beach to house our patrol boat, and we have increased the number of hours for manning the beach, pool and lake. We have Increased hours for off duty police patrol. We have changed and improved our website for community connection and enrichment. Projects we are saving for in the future include launching a community garden, new tennis courts, and permanent groundcover on the toddler playground.

Much of what has been accomplished is solely through the efforts of volunteers. Not only the members of the Board of Directors, who volunteer many hours of their time each month to Norris Lake business, but also many volunteers who step up to work on various projects, such as decorating the clubhouse, writing and printing the newsletter, planting flowers, making our new website a reality, and many others. We need 100% support from all Norris Lake homeowners, both financially, with your timely payment of assessments, and any time you can volunteer to make your community a better place to live. We have enclosed a copy of the current financial information, as well as a flyer about the photography contest we are sponsoring.
